An Social home for Openlife Users

For a long time I agreed that the omission of Second Inventory (SI) was a good thing. Forcing creators to be, well, creative, in that art would be re-created with new tools and a new outlook.
The last few months, I have spent more time on my home sim, designing and testing mostly, then having to do it all again on-grid, mainly because of OL instability, It becomes tiresome fast.

This was raised on the OL blog from a post at SI headquarters.
The one paragraph says a lot. it means they give up on OL.

QUOTE "With regards to OpenLife, afaik, we will stop to include Openlife into our trusted grid list, unless Angelo won't talk again with Sakai and new agreements will be taken. END QUOTE

So the time has come for all who are waiting for SI to "Kick up a stink", be told the whys and there-fores and not be kept in the dark. Have some idea of when or even IF. I certainly have no clue.
Not knowing creates an US and THEM attitude. e.g. THEY won't tell us anything... rather than we don't know anything.
I could send an email and ask, but this is for public knowledge.

I'm only posting this to get the ball rolling. It IS time, or I fear the momentum will slow (even more) as the tier changes in SL soon move to the next level.

Do you want Second Inventory or not?

Cool. Making a region available for Mr Biondi is a great idea.
On the surface of things it sounded like a good idea at first because of the large inventory I have at SL. I then realised that I feel the I don't want OLG to become an extension of SL. I would like to see this place built from the ground up without all the crap that went along with SL.
Hi

I am one that is against Second Inventory. The reason is, theft is rampant in SL--I a swear even supported. This makes it almost zero cost to newbies, and the time and effort spend to create it all is treated as nothing of any worth to LL. Since things can be copied there, almost at will, the thief, simply calls himself the creator. Bingo. He uses Second Inventory and it is here undercutting a person here that spent months, doing it over by hand here. LL's shameless support of Content Creators, needs to be broken somehow. It is not going to be, if everything we have made is going to show up here for free, or nearly so. Think about it! if someone wants to get something for free, why build or buy anything here? Just get someone in SL to steal a copy and bring it here. I have seen it already with some things like skins--and so have you.

On the other hand, if OL is known as a place where Content Creators are protected------They will flock here because they will at least believe, that months of work is not going to be used by someone else. That is my take on it. Good things are never easy.

I'd like to see Second Inventory or some type of system for backing up my inventory. Yes, I've had some issues along the way also even though I am relatively new. I get very frustrated when items disappear or permissions just change. It's difficult to maintain excitement about something when your creative work you spent a lot of time on is just gone.

I'd love to bring some of my creations over from SL. They are still my work and my creations. I really think where items are created is irrelevant. Creations are the work of the "rl avie" behind the keyboard. However, I do understand everyone has their own opinion on the topic - a perspective of the "rl avie."

Luckily, I have a computer that can handle both worlds being open at once, and I can create my items in OL from the specs of my other items. Which is easier? I don't know because I really don't have experience with Second Inventory. I'm sure that over time I'll be creating things in both worlds for the first time and crossing them over.
Just my view. I'm a creator in SL.

I have read about people saying they prefer stuff made in OLG vs stuff made in SL, or words that appear to boil down to that effect.

It shouldn't matter where it's made, what should matter is the creator (in terms of reputation) and quality.

Not being able to transfer my stock to OLG via SI or other means would be a big deterrent to me setting up shop in OLG.

Ideological purity of OLG'ers aside, I'll be d*mned if I'm going to recreate from scratch my merchandise just for OLG. Forget it.

Didnt read it all to the end - lol

The region is again active and the tests should be finished, as I heard from Angelo we just need some confirmation from Sakai to close the issue and publish the new release.

(From Digital Dreambuilder)

I have created a venue where OLPC developers or educators can meet in a virtual environment, regardless of their physical location on the planet - the OLPC Centre on the Openlife Grid.

The Openlife Grid is a virtual world (Opensim architecture) that allows people to meet and interact in a virtual environment. In that environment your presence is represented by a character on screen (avatar).

I am opening up the OLPC Openlife center as a place for any OLPC and XO developers and educators to meet. Although the location is virtual the immersive experience of 'being present' is there.
