Well, maybe "kid" is not the word I was looking for, but I'm new here, less than a month. Synclair is a name I use on all grids and I don't really look like my avatar, either. :-)
Since I've been here, the thing that strikes me more than anything else is the friendliness of the people I have met and their willingness to help newbies like myself. I should point out that, although I'm new to OLG, I'm not so new to metaverses in general, having been a builder in SL for about a year - specialising…

Surreal's blog reminded me that, for completeness sake, I should post here information about the TwitterHUD and Openlife Public Twitterphone. The original OL Forum post is produced below, but with some additions after its successful implementation.
The Openlife TwitterHUD
Now you can talk to people inworld, the real world and other twitter-enabled worlds from within the Openlife Grid with your own personal TwitterHUD.
When worn as a HUD it allows you check and send tweets using your ex…

Problems connecting to OLG and website may be caused by this.
SINGAPORE (Dow Jones)--As many as seven undersea cables linking various Asian nations have been damaged by undersea landslides from Typhoon Morakat that battered Taiwan and China over the weekend, leading to Internet and voice call connectivity disruptions in Asia and sending telecommunications operators scrambling to restore services.
rest of story here: http://www.mis-asia.com/news/articles/typhoon-morakot-severs-three-undersea-in…

Hello,
Once again we thank you for your supportive posts, blogs (we see them though we are not approving any new content now) and PMs in world and here. We also thank you for your patience during this time of our decision process. We would like to take this oppurtunity to explain our direction for the near future.
After many hours of discussions it was determined that there were more issues left behind then fun to be had. So, it was decided by the two remaining site owners (this site was founded…

Background
Way back in November 2008 when the Openlife Grid was first capable of controlling parcel media under script control I produced a radio with menu driven selection of internet radio stations.
The radio wasn't particularly script engine friendly and used a port of an existing freeware script (Bucky's Radio script) from the Land of the Hand.
Since then I have produced a more script-engine friendly version of the radio and have produced a copy, modify, no transfer version for peo…

ARCHEOLOGICAL LOG
Date: 25 May 09
Project Site: Phaedran
Archaeologist: Shai Khalifa
This project is proving to be nothing sort of fantastic (in the truest meaning). Every day seems to uncover more wonders never before seen.
The huge dragons on the western end of the site were always something that inspired awe and wonder in anyone who saw them, and we're hoping to find out more about their origins as we continue the dig. There are 2 smaller ones above the bridge that joins one mountain to the…

OK, most of you know my role here is editor. I chase stories and report on them. Often I am given a few nuggets that I have to research and compile into what I consider an article. I am not a professional, I just like to write and being a fan of OpenLife my articles will reflect that. When you see something appear on the OLX news area.. that is me reporting as an editor. If you see something here on my personal blog that is my own wonderings and ramblings. I invite discussion on hot button issue…

G'day,
Its been a fun 13+ months and the transition from main land to a Private cluster has gone well.
This last couple of weeks has given me the chance to explore the thoughts and images in my head better as I develop the Space port at Woomera. Slowly ( or quickly depending on how much coffee I drink) I introduce and blend in the builds from last year/ Those builds are all in the museum in the sky awaiting deployment or just to be set for sale. Some of these are free and have already been hande…

Famous artist Bob Ross always said, "This is your world. You can paint it how you want to." And that is exactly what we are here in our own virtual world...Artists. We can paint this world how we want to. We can become terrorist and shoot everyone down who crosses our paths, leaving a trail of red blood, a path that leads to no where but doom and gloom.
Or..we can become caring and helpful people who leave behind good feelings, which in turn plants the seed of brightness and warmth that is very…

2-20-09 - Here is an update to the wave making adventure / experience / headache ;)
Find more photos like this on Open Life Style
The first attempt of waves with the "plane" in blender didn't turn out as I had hoped. You can see how it looks like a wave (for the most part) in Blender. Taken in-world it looks much different. I knew that planes tend to "close" themselves, notice the now present…

Hi everyone
On his return, I had a chat with Sakai. We discussed what we could see from the grid as it stands right now with respect to people’s interactions and comments. I said I would post something on it.
This is a post addressed to everyone. It seems in recent weeks there have been a lot of negatives here for whatever reasons, right or wrong; some are incredibly silly to view; some are totally relevant but here I ask each and every one of you involved in this to THINK!
How does this port…

The 3D environments of virtual worlds (VW) provide an opportunity to reach out to a more global audience than many of us realise. The ability to construct environments which would otherwise be impractical to explore in reality makes it possible to present content embodied, for example, in video that can send a message to create awareness and stimulate action by a target audience who might be intrigued enough to visit a VW such as Openlife and bring their communities with them if the concept of i…

Lately I've been remembering my first VW experience, newbie, newbI, whatever the latest name is, it was just plain noob-ness. Not knowing how to script (which for some unknown reason I'm STILL avoiding trying to learn), or how to make a prim or what the hell a "prim" even is! How to fly.. the camming.. WOW that was something to learn (now I like to think that I could cam my way across the grid if it was possible, hehee). Lately I've been feeling like the more I learn the less I know.
The other…
