Updates are coming to OpenLife Grid!

Expect some down time tomorrow while Sakai pulls some levers, pushes some buttons and tosses some new updates into the grid.


Here is the official announcement:

Hi everyone it's been a really tremendous 2 weeks.

And now it's time to update



Update Schedule: 4pm +8GMT Friday 14th (8am UTC)

Total Grid Outage: Expected 30-45minutes.

First Regions Online: 30-45 Minutes

Time to all Regions updated: 4hrs (approx)



Grid Improvements:

Add 2 new Core Servers (these provide things like login/assets/inventory & other grid services)

Small reshuffle to some grid areas, new segmenting of core services.

Maintenance to some servers, Server code updates to all.

Regions Update to: 3DXServer 0.6.5 & Openlibrary 0.55

- This is a large collection of updates some that were held from the previous update, some new. Effects, region crossings, inventory, some scripting, some asset collection, offline inventory delivery, packet loss (refactored packet delivery) - Many thanks to the guys & gals from Opensim & also David & Sakai at 3DX (Openlife).

I know those of us in the US may be having a hard time getting used to the GMT and UTC stuff so if you are check on the side of OLX for timezones and adjust to your area accordingly. :) The 4PM listed is the same as "Sakai Time" on our gadget. ;)

A few quick answers to common questions about this update:

- When can I login to the grid again? This will happen as soon as possible over the course of the 4hrs or so it will take to complete.

-How often do we update? Usually every 2 weeks. Thursday or Friday at an off-peak time to the bulk of the users.

-How long do updates usually take? This one is quite sizeable, so it's probably got one of the longest times in recent updates.

-When updates do happen can are logins normally disabled? No. Usually an update will happen whilst the gris is still open for login. On this occaision we did require to close logins for some back end maintenance at the same time.

-Will this update make my Avatar more attractive to other Avatars? erm... ok. That's proabably not a common question...
